Scoliosis and Body Balance – A Gentle Way to Restore Movement
Scoliosis is more than just a sideways curve of the spine – it also affects the balance of the muscles in your back and core.
How Scoliosis Can Affect the Body
When the spine curves, the muscles around the back and abdomen become uneven. This may lead to:
Changes in the position or function of internal organs
Ribs sticking out more on one side
A visible hump on the back
Differences in chest or breast shape and size
A Client’s Experience with SBM
One of my clients with scoliosis has clear rib asymmetry. During her SBM practice, she sometimes feels mild discomfort around the ribs, especially as her spine begins to move in new ways.
In today’s session, for example, she noticed rib pain about 30 minutes into a series of neck movements. This shows that previously inactive muscles are beginning to work again.
What’s encouraging is that while she used to feel pain all the way down her thighs and calves, today she only felt some discomfort in her right knee – her leg pain has almost disappeared.
How SBM Can Help
SBM (Self Body Make) is a gentle method that balances the muscles along the spine through simple, repetitive practice. Over time, the movement of the spine and ribs improves, and misalignments become less severe.
Because scoliosis also affects the pelvis, hips, and knees, SBM works on the whole body, not just the spine.
Most importantly, all exercises are done lying down, which means your body is supported and protected from unnecessary strain. This makes SBM a safe and reassuring approach for people with scoliosis.
If you’re living with scoliosis and wondering, “Is it really safe for me to exercise?” — the answer is yes.
SBM offers a gentle way to move, strengthen, and rebalance your body.
