Sharing How SBM Can Support Post-Stroke Recovery

A client who has been experiencing aftereffects from a stroke visited us for an SBM trial session and consultation.
During the session, I explained how SBM can support stroke recovery in the following three key ways:

1. Reconnecting the Brain, Nerves, and Body

SBM doesn't just work with the muscles and bones — it also gently stimulates the nervous system.

After a stroke, nerve signals from the brain to the body often become disrupted.
This can lead to difficulties with movement and a loss of clear sensation.

SBM’s small, symmetrical, and twisting movements — especially around the spine — help retrain these neural pathways, gradually reconnecting the brain, nerves, and body through gentle repetition.

2. Safe and Relaxing — All Done While Lying Down

SBM is done lying down, which places the body in its lowest-stress position.
This makes it much safer and gentler than standing rehabilitation exercises.

The slow, mindful movements help release muscle tension and stiffness, which is very common after a stroke.
By easing this stiffness, the body can begin to move more freely and naturally again.

3. Rediscover the Feeling of Recovering Through Your Own Effort

Instead of passive therapy where something is “done to you,” SBM helps you experience what it’s like to heal yourself, from within.

Of course, the best way to understand SBM is to feel it in your own body.

Since it was their first session, we began with just 2 minutes of simple SBM practice.

During the neck movement, they said:

> “I feel relaxed!”

Later that evening, they tried 15 minutes of SBM at home using the SBM pillow.
Although their lower back was not yet ready for movement, they already felt the tension in their upper back start to release just by doing the neck part.
And they slept really well that night!

I encouraged them to continue SBM gently, at their own pace, every day.
We’re looking forward to seeing them again after the holiday!
