National Self-Care Week: A New Approach to Herniated Discs and Back Pain
Introduction
From 17–23 November 2025, the UK celebrates National Self-Care Week.
This campaign reminds us that caring for our own health is not a luxury – it’s a responsibility. For many people, however, self-care feels impossible when living with constant back pain or the daily challenges of a herniated disc.
As a specialist who has worked with people suffering from herniated discs and nerve compression for over 14 years, I believe there is a way forward. This year, I am offering free SBM (Self Body Make) sessions during Self-Care Week to show that recovery can begin with simple, sustainable steps.
The Challenge of Herniated Discs
Back pain caused by herniated discs affects not only physical comfort but also professional performance, sleep, relationships, and mental wellbeing. Many people rely on painkillers, or believe that surgery is the only option, yet still struggle with numbness, stiffness, or recurring pain.
What is often overlooked is the body’s natural capacity to restore balance when given the right support. This is where self-care becomes essential.
What Is SBM (Self Body Make)?
SBM is a structured self-care method designed to:
Relieve pain and numbness caused by nerve compression
Improve posture and restore the spine’s natural “S-curve”
Build habits for long-term recovery without invasive procedures
Unlike temporary fixes, SBM focuses on re-educating the body. It is gentle, safe, and suitable for individuals who want to take an active role in their healing.
Why Self-Care Matters for Back Pain
Self-care is often misunderstood as relaxation or indulgence. In reality, it means taking consistent, proactive steps to protect and improve your health.
For those with herniated discs, self-care is not optional – it is the foundation of recovery.
By practicing targeted movements, improving posture, and listening to the body’s signals, it is possible to reduce pain and regain mobility.
An Invitation During National Self-Care Week
To highlight the importance of self-care, I am offering complimentary SBM trial sessions between 17–23 November 2025.
These sessions will provide:
A practical introduction to SBM exercises
Guidance on how to reduce pressure on the spine
Tools to continue practicing self-care independently
This is an opportunity to experience a new approach and to take the first step towards lasting relief.
Conclusion
National Self-Care Week reminds us that health begins with personal responsibility. For anyone struggling with herniated discs or chronic back pain, self-care is not just possible – it is powerful.
I invite you to join me during this week, explore SBM, and discover how your body can heal itself when supported in the right way.
