4 Months to Relief: How SBM Helped One Client Reclaim Life from Chronic Back Pain ー Herniated Disc

"Because I have a herniated disc... Because my lower back is straight..."

Are you thinking there's no hope for recovery?

In today’s SBM (Self Body Make) lesson,

we began with aligning the height of the pelvis and applying the SBM belt for support.

When this client first joined a trial session, their lumbar spine had no natural curve — it was completely straight.
This condition often leads to increased pressure on the intervertebral discs and nerves, causing pain and numbness.

But please —
Don’t give up.

With SBM, even in such cases, it's possible to gradually restore the natural curve of the lower back.

A Body That Began to Change in Just Four Months

This client first started using the SBM Pillow in November last year.
It took four full months before their hips could fully settle on the pillow.

Now, four months into regular attendance at our studio,
they shared this during today’s session:

“Recently, my lower back pain is gone. I’ve been feeling really good.
But now, my neck feels a bit tight…”

Actually —
this is a positive sign. 👏👏👏

Not only is their back pain decreasing, but their body is now revealing areas of tension that were previously hidden.

When the body begins to realign and improve,
underlying issues—in this case, around the neck—can begin to surface.
Sometimes, these issues were simply masked by more severe symptoms elsewhere (like nerve compression in the lower back).

This is a sign that deep, fundamental changes are starting to take place.

In the Beginning, Even 10 Minutes Was Too Much

At the very start, even 10 minutes of SBM was too painful to continue.

But once they joined the studio and started training with us:

  • They had the support of others on a similar journey (including their wife!),

  • They heard inspiring recovery stories from fellow participants,

  • And yes, I gave a bit of tough love when needed 😉,

They gradually began to change.

Eventually, they came to feel for themselves that

“When I do SBM, my herniated disc pain eases.”
And from that moment, they began practicing SBM at home as well.

If You Want to Change, Step Into the Right Environment

After today’s session, I also took some time to talk about the importance of having three lessons a month as a consistent rhythm for progress.

When you truly want to change, the fastest path is to change your environment.

Time doesn’t go backward.

That’s why:

  • Don’t give up,

  • Learn the right method,

  • And place yourself in an environment that supports your healing.

These steps can become your first and most important stride toward recovery from a herniated disc.
