body misalignment may be one of the underlying causes of sleep apnoea.
Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS) and Body Alignment
Recently, I came across a BBC News article about Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS).
The article explains that sleep apnoea is a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, sometimes more than 10 times an hour, and can have serious health implications.
Many people are aware that they snore, but they don’t realize that they actually stop breathing while sleeping.
After reading the article, I commented that body misalignment may be one of the underlying causes of sleep apnoea.
In response, I received an interesting comment from someone who had read my post:
“That's interesting because I've recently been diagnosed with cervical osteoarthritis. When I've had massage, the masseur has noticed a disalignment. Somewhere else in this thread I've said ex-partners noticed me stop breathing in my sleep. This is worrying.”
Later, the same person added that they also have hip osteoarthritis and that their balance has become poor.
The Body Is Never Just One Problem
From this description, it becomes clear that the issue is not limited to the neck alone.
Problems in the body rarely appear in isolation.
From our experience as SBM instructors, and from understanding how the body works structurally, we often see that distortion begins in the pelvis and gradually affects the entire body.
This is something we observe repeatedly when assessing our clients’ bodies.
The Pelvis Is the Foundation of the Body
The pelvis is the foundation of the body.
If the foundation is unstable or distorted, it affects posture, balance, the spine, the neck—and even breathing.
This is not something that should be overlooked.
“I Just Don’t Know How to Fix It”
Recently, a participant in a one-off online SBM session at our Tokyo main school shared that they sleep while wearing a CPAP machine.
Most people are not lacking effort.
They simply don’t know that there is another way.
With SBM (Self Body Make), it is possible to work on your body yourself, gently and consistently, and improve these conditions from the root.
If you are struggling with unexplained symptoms, discomfort, or conditions like sleep apnoea,
I invite you to experience SBM for yourself.
Your body has more potential than you may realize.
